7 THINGS TO DO TO REDUCE YOUR FUEL BILL

Here are the 7 things you can do today to keep money in you wallet:

  1. Walk  – not only do you save on you fuel bill, you get exercise and can save on your gym membership that you do not use.
  2. Car pool – one person in a car = inefficiency;. We all love those 2 for 1 deals, why not use that when you have to go to work?
  3. Plan  – when you have to use the car, plan your trip so that you don’t drive all the way to the supermarket and then half way back home you realize that you needed to get something from the dry cleaners not far from the supermarket.
  4. Slow down – no need to be a speed demon! Do you know that you burn more fuel when you speed. Not only is slowing down going to reduce you fuel consumption, it can save you life.
  5. Car maintenance -  a fully maintained car is a fuel efficient car. Trust me I know since I have 3 bothers who are mechanics in a second generation family of mechanics. Make sure that your car maintenance is up to date! Part of this is also making sure that your tires are checked and fully pressurized.
  6. Less air – do you really need to have the air conditioner running every minute while you are in the car? How about turning it off for a few minutes – it can help you save on the bill!
  7. Reduce the load – my aunt uses her car trunk as extra storage for the laundry liquids. Her rationale is that she needs it when she goes to the laundry, however she doesn’t use all or go to the laundry every week. This extra load means greater fuel consumption. Check your car for things that can be left at home – such as ski or bike racks.

Now that’s just a few of the zillion and one things that people can come up with to save on fuel cost. I am sure that you have a few things that you do as well. It will be great if you can share them with us!
