ORGANIC FOOD

Organic foods are generally more expensive than fertilizer produce or intensively reared animal products. Because of the cost we all buy the latter products without considering the long term implications.

Pesticide residues remain on food products that we consume raw. Foods such as fruits and vegetables. The Environmental Working Group has just released their new Shoppers Guide to Pesticides that gives information on the foods that you should consider buying organic.

Some of these include:

  • Apples
  • Peaches
  • Bell Peppers
  • Celery
  • Potatoes
  • Raspberries
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries

Check the guide for a more comprehensive list.

Why would you want to get organic?

Well the reason lies with the fact than when you consume foods with residues, the substances build up in tissues of your body over time and cause health problems for you. Pregnant women should especially avoid these products since the health of the developing fetus is at risk.  These residues can also affect the mental and physical development of young children.

So should you count the cost of the organic foods now or the cost of your family’s health later in life? Which is more costlier?
